The Colonial Line was a major operator of coastal passenger steamers between New York City and Providence, R.I. and between New York and New Bedford. They also provided seasonal service to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Regular passenger service seems to have been discontinued in the early 1940's, but the company still exists as a small global shipping company with about 10 ships.
